The Riviera and Rome - Beausoleil
In the latter half of the nineteenth century, Monaco experiencing a tremendous economic boom, the price of land adjacent to the Principality increases considerably. Camille White, and future first mayor of Beausoleil, then president of the Societe des Bains de Mer, founded the Société Immobilière of Monte-Carlo Superior, which is aimed at the development of these lands.
On November 23, 1894, residents of the current district Carnier require that the land below La Turbie be erected into a distinct town, a detachment of territory turbiasque who will speak April 10, 1904. On 1 May, are held the first elections to the newly created municipality. Camille White was elected mayor and will remain so until 1925.
Notoriety associated with the Belle Epoque
Benefiting from the economic Monaco, Beausoleil grows and modernizes. The city is ranked resort, it hosts the prestigious Riviera Palace, the aristocracy and upper middle class European, seeking the mild climate and a certain lifestyle. Thus was born the winter tourism and with it, the "Belle Epoque" known for its continuous festivals, its sumptuous banquets and eccentricities.
Characterized by the architect and technical progress, the "Belle Epoque" is also synonymous with lower classes who live in Beausoleil in neighborhoods of Tonkin and the Gaiety. There, workers lived in Piedmont from contributing to the development of the Principality. Once connected to the world by a "rail rack, this line of communication preferred Menton and Italy, became a haven for visitors who flock to Monaco.
